Here is the modern marvels episode
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9E6HFN-dPS8
This was filmed almost 2 years ago, just now airing for the first time.
It turned out well overall. Ended up being a couple of minutes, they spend most of the time with jay Leno and his steam cars and steam engine collection, lucky I didn't get bumped out all together :)
Thank you for sharing the link, and your marvels.
Congratulations on your national exposure.
I would like to find out the particulars re: your trading tribe.
Thank you for your inquiry.
I wonder what in particular you wish to know. If you have not read them already, you may find these two links useful as a background on the Trading Tribe in general and on Silicon Valley Computer Tribe specifically:
http://www.lib.aero/tribe/emotional-engineering.amlHi,
I saw your video demonstrating your RC app for the iPhone and iPod touch, I was wondering if you still needed any beta testers. I have several rc heliicopters I would be happy to test it with including an eflite msr, an mcx and an eflite cx3.
Let me know if you still need a beta tester and I will gladly test the app with my helicopters.
I've been flying helicopters for the past 3 years and have built several from scratch. I typically fly with a dx7. When I crash it is usually because I decide to try new tricks or fly through obstacle courses (around chair legs, under tables, between trees). The last time i crashed and actually damaged the helicopter was 6 months ago I am not into planes as much as I am helicopters. I have only been flying planes for a year. I crash planes more often than I do helicopters. It is usually do to me losing orientation or catching a gust of wind causing me to lose control. Typically I crash a plane every 6 flights.
I have alot of experience soldering and working with electronics. I had built a hexapod robot and am working on trying to build a survelience helicopter. I wouldn't have any trouble wiring a reciever to connect to an iPod touch or iPhone.
My apple device I'd is:

Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm.
Thank you for following my requirements for beta testers.
The beta testing program is complete. iPhly is available for download from App store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iphly/id375272646?mt=8
I value feedback from early adopters as much as from beta testers. There are many features that are still coming to iPhly. Feedback form users drives my priorities in implementing some features before others.
I am looking forward to your feedback.
Hello Ari,
Very impressive, I knew you were talented but apparently your "Comp. Geek" skills are impressive also. Good work! I'll send this out to all.
New exiting stuff: I'm working with a new investor contact to build a 40 ft. diameter transport. The RC model has already flown.
The Geobat model is both 80 inches in wingspan and length presenting a perfectly circular edge. It's normal flying weight is right at 50lb.s It is powered by a German made 3W two cylinder engine that creates 5hp.
The wing airfoil is built around the NACA 23012 series with thickness varations.
The GPS measured takeoff velocity is 38mph. The gear down average cruise speed is approx. 50mph(GPS measured) The max velocity is approx 110mph with current engine and 20inch prop(20x10). The static engine thrust is measured at 30lb.s
The stall speed is estimated to be around 25mph with flaps set for landing. (30 degrees)
Builder: Rick Hamel, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania - Please be sure to post his name if nothing else.
I'm about to start work with another toy co. so I'll keep you mind as things progress.
Thank you for sharing your process.
40' is quite a step up from 80". I wish you success with it. I wonder what kind of support you might need in your venture.
My own experience with (much smaller) geobat models is that they are incredibly stable with an unbelievably wide speed range. They are among the most enjoyable models I've built.

Hi
I saw your iPhly software demo video. I would like to beta test the software.
Please send in the details.
Thanks
Thank you for your interest in the beta testing program.
The beta testing program is complete. iPhly is available for download in the App sore: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iphly/id375272646?mt=8
I welcome your feedback on the application.
I tried setting up my dx7 using the app but it is not working. I have the dx7 set to p-link but it doesn't recognize the itouch as a trainer.
Thank you for your note.
I am not familiar with p-link. I wonder if you can verify that your DX7 works with other TXs. I set up iPhly as the student and the host TX as the teacher TX. You may also wish to verify you have the volume up all the way after you plug in the cable.
Ari writes:You may also wish to verify you have the volume up all the way afetr you plug in the cable.
Thanks, that fixed it.
The volume wasn't high enough. The iPod now links with the tx as a slave.
The problem now is that as soon as I switch the control to the iPod, the helicopter immediatly goes to 1/2 throttle. I try adjusting the throttle on the iPod by the heli doesn't respond.
iPhly outputs channels in the Futaba order: aileron is channel 1. DX7 uses JR order: throttle is channel 1. I am working on a user setting to control channel order.
Would using a spektrum dm8 module instead of the dx7 solve the problem? Is it not possible to use a dx7 right now until you are able to update the app?
Thank you for your continuing support. Your feedback helps define the application.
DM8 works. This is what I use. It expects Futaba channel ordering and reorders them for JR-style receivers.
I don't know if the DX7 allows you to remap some of the channels. Some high-end radios let you select arbitrary order.
If you have a full-size receiver (not an all in one like the mCX), you can swap the servo connectors.
I can get a beta build with channel reordering out to you in a couple of days.
Ari - I'm getting all the bits together. i'm building a 600 size heli with an onboard IMU to be controled with your app. :)
Thank you for sharing your process.
I am looking forward to your feedback.

I am looking forward to your feedback.
Ari,
Congrats. I hope things go well for you.
Out of curiosity, how long did the iTunes approval process take?
Thank you for your support.
Apple approve my application in 8 days.
Morning Ari,
Just a quick message to let you know we put the story out yesterday and so far it's made the Telegraph.
Will let you know if I spot anything else.
Thank you for the link.
I wonder if this article also appears in the print edition.
This is a copy of a message I post on 3 local mailing lists:

Subject: Would you like to add the word
"iPhone" to your resume?
I am tired of getting turned down for jobs. One question that keeps coming up is "do you have any experience with mobile?" Well now I do.
I am developing an iPhone hardware accessory. I am a licensee in Apple's Made for iPhone program and have access to their extra-special authentication chips and associating APIs. I am looking for help interfacing these chips to my microcontroller. You don't need any iPhone experience--I can bring you up to speed on the rest of the Apple development environment. You do need to sign Apple's NDA.
I am bootstrapping this product and don't have any money to pay right now. I do offer a unique experience to add to your list of successful projects. An unusual and visible iPhone project on your resume may open new opportunities for you. iPhone developers are in demand. iPhone developers who know how to talk to external hardware are very rare.

Ari,
You have excellent idea and I was impressed with your remote control air plane video.
I have developed simple Apps for iPhone and I was also teaching iPhone app development class to high school students. I have used Apple's iPhone Xcode/simulator environment and developed iPhone apps.
I also have a lot of software and hardware / device driver / micro controller experience.
I can certainly help you on your project and we can work together. We should meet for coffee or lunch to discuss this further, please let me know your availability.
Thanks,
Thank you for your encouragement.
I wonder if you can describe one of your microcontroller projects.
Ari wrote:Would you like to add the word "iPhone" to your resume?
Ari,
Very cool demo of your project. It's been a while since I used my EE toolkit even though I was a hardware engineer for a while. I'm interested in seeing how I can help and definitely interested in discussing how you'd market this. I'm always looking forward to meet other entrepreneurs interested in iPhones. Feel free to check out my Linkedin profile and let me know if we should connect.
All the best on your venture, it looks very promising.
Thank you for your encouragement.
I notice a lot of business development experience in your background. I wonder if you can describe in more detail the help you are offering. My immediate requirements include reading 800 pages of hardware documentation and building a circuit to interface with that hardware.
Ari wrote:Would you like to add the word "iPhone" to your resume?
Hi Ari,
This sounds interesting. I would be interested. I have experience with mobile apps (in an earlier time) but not iPhone. I am also a airplane-fanatic.
Thank you for sharing your interest in airplanes.
I wonder if you can describe how you wish the experience of working with me to turn out for you.
Ari wrote:Would you like to add the word "iPhone" to your resume?
Ari,
I am interested in your project. I have an embedded system background.
Thank you for your note.
I wonder if you can describe your level of interest.
Hi Ari,
Cool picture of your daughter on your shoulder at the computer. I'm sure that will be a family classic photo.
Ari - good work. Congratulations on this excellent achievement.
I feel happiness that you reach this very important milestone.
Thank you for your support--and for sharing your happiness.
Ari - Just got started on my day and found your [iPhone job] post unusually engaging so I drilled down a little. Should be working on my own stuff but... I'm so impressed with your outreach, watched your iPhone airplane remote, checked out your dice mosaics and other art. Your brain must be in hyperdrive all the time! Loved the picture of you and your baby.
Thanks for entertaining and enlightening me before I jump into my schedule today. If I win Super Lotto on Saturday I'll be calling you.
I bow to your talents,
Thank you for your encouragement.
I wonder about the connection you see between calling me and winning the lottery.
Ari writes:I wonder about the connection you see between calling me and winning the lottery.
As an investor in your inventions!
Thank you for your clarification. My impression is that few lottery winners invest profitably.
I tested the function on the IPAD [with your beta build]. I had to adjust the resistance of the prototype, and it works. is a bit uncomfortable with the size of the IPAD.
I've seen your apilcacion in the app store. I think it's a bit expensive. The transmitter has cost me 190$. wait a bit to buy it, now I have no money.
thanks for your work.
Thank you for sharing your findings.
Thank you for your feedback on the price. I notice that it is less than 8% of the cost of your transmitter.
If you wish to continue providing your feedback, you can continue as an ongoing beta tester for upcoming builds.
I would like to continue being a beta tester and keep trying.
I'm working on the bluetooth transmitter.
to rate the app in itunes, I have to buy.
Thank you for your continuing support and explaining the rating process to me. I wasn't aware of the purchasing requirement.
I can send you a promotional code if you wish to rate the app.
I'm looking forward to your results with bluetooth.
Hi Ari,
I'm not the techie you are looking for and we have never met. But I just want to let you know that I am very, very impressed with your prototypes I saw in youtube. I sincerely wish you the very best in reaching your goal.
Thank you for your encouragement.

Hello -
I am very interested in your iPhone work proposal. I would love to be involved in any capacity. My background briefly: I have been involved as a Software engineer and manager for the last ten years in realtime embedded systems primarily for cockpit display for aircraft. We developed primarily in C/C++ on various microcontrollers and processors. I would love to pick up some iPhone knowledge, especially since Apple is one of my target companies, and the fact that you are working with a flying app is sweet as airplanes and flying was my first love.

Cheers,
Thank you for sharing your background.
I welcome your questions. I wonder if you can describe the kind of synergy you wish to have.
Ari wrote:Would you like to add the word "iPhone" to your resume?
Ari,
That is a very cool product demonstration.
Are you looking for someone to work on hardware, software or both?
My job experience is I started out in electronics and slowly moved into software over the years. I did have embedded experience about ten years ago using using 8255 controllers and processors.
Most of my job experience has been working in a manufacturing test engineering position or new product introduction. During these jobs I would write software to control equipment that runs tests on the products we manufacture. Combination of hardware and software.
I know the hardware experience is a long time ago but if you are interested I can send you a resume.
Thank you for your encouragement and for describing your experience.
I have about 800 pages of documentation for an authentication chip and a binary serial protocol. The hardware connections are pretty straight-forward: serial, SPI and I2C. I have two devices, one talks serial at 57.6kbps, the other at 125kbps. I need to plug a microcontroller between them to respond to the authentication challenges and translate the bit rate. If you can read the documentation and make this setup work, I don't care how old your experience is.
Cool congrats on getting on the Iphone app store!
As to my schedule, its booked up thru June. I’m in Asia now. I’m Ccing [associate], who will help us find time in July. (I do have some travel that’s planned then too, so it might take a bit for us to get everything hammered down.)
Look forward to catching up.
Ari wrote:Would you like to add the word "iPhone" to your resume?
Hi Ari,
It looks interesting. When can we talk?

Shalom Ari,
Why did you post your project in [group] site?
I don't do $WHY questions.
My intention in posting my message is to find a person who can help me with something I want--in return for something I can give him or her.
Your message tells me nothing about what you wish to offer or what you expect in return.
Ari wrote:Your message tells me nothing about what you wish to offer or what you expect in return.
Hi Ari,
I still can't tell what you need.
I used to be a design engineer (hardware and software) years ago. Since then I become engineering manager, then moved to marketing, biz dev and business management.
Still - depends on what you are looking for, I might be interested in some hands-on experience.
Also - I sent you an email as I have an idea for iPhone and I'm looking for someone who is an iPhone developer. Looks like you are now considered an iPhone developer.
Thank you for sharing your process.
If you don't understand a job description, one possibility is that you don't have the skills to do the job.
If you want my feedback on your iPhone idea, you may wish to describe it in more detail.
If you wish to hire me to implement your idea, I can quote you a consulting rate.
Ari wrote:I wonder if you can describe one of your microcontroller projects.
Hi Ari,
I have used 8 bit and 16 bit micro controllers like 8051, 8096 in multiple projects with data communication applications for modems, fax, and networking protocols.
Also used embedded micro-processors in ASICs/FPGA for other projects.
Regards,
Thank you for your description and your call thins morning.
I invite you to meet at the Hacker Dojo. The address is 140A South Whisman Rd Mountain View, CA 94041

Ari,
I'm probably not the right guy for you at this time. Appreciate the response, keep in touch and all the best.
Thank you for clarifying your intentions.
Ari,
I have used the serial interface in various projects with different programming languages so the serial interface shouldn't be too hard. One project was done using I2C. Whatever SP1 is I can read the documentation and figure it out.
We can get together next week to discuss the project. This weekend I am busy finishing up a group project for my PHP class.
Thank you for your note.
I get the sense that you know how to do this stuff.
I invite you to meet me at Hacker Dojo in Mountain View on Monday at 5pm.
Ari,
Very nice YouTube video and application. Are you looking for some specific skills?
Thanks,
Thank you for your encouragement.
My original email describes my immediate requirements--interfacing some hardware components over serial and I2C. I have some 800 pages of documentation from Apple that describe the protocols that these devices understand.
Hi,
I watched your youtube video today (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MthsWKBdlU) and I am very interested in helping you beta test your iPhone hardware accessory. I just finished school this week, so I am available now, and my time is very flexible. I will leave for the University of [State] in late September. I live in the bay area and I own a 3GS iPhone.
Please let me know if you still have a need for beta testers.
Thank you for your note. The beta testing program is complete and iPhly is available for purchase at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iphly/id375272646?mt=8
In my current development phase, I am looking for a local R/C pilot to help me test iPhly with larger, outdoor models. I wonder if you can describe your experience with R/C models.
Ari wrote:Would you like to add the word "iPhone" to your resume?
Hello,
I'm interested and would like to know more.
Thanks!
Thank you for your note.
I wonder if you can describe your interest or what you want to know.
Ari wrote:I wonder if you can describe your interest or what you want to know.
Ari, thank you for responding!
As for my interests: I am a big iPhone, iPod, and iTouch fan.
I have owned an iPhone for a few years now and I recently registered to become an iPhone developer. I have a number of programs I'd like to develop but I don't know where to go from there, though. When I saw your email about hardware development integrate with the iPhone and your offer to help those who work with you to get up to speed, I got pretty excited.
I do have some programming experience, though I am a bit rusty. I used to be very good with Basic, Fortran, C, and C++. I purchased a book on Objective C, but I can't seem to get myself to read it - I need something to apply it to (perhaps your project).
I created my own Mac so I'd have some place to develop the software. For a little more than $300, I turned a Dell Mini 10v into a Hackintosh (I'm on a budget, too). I've been having some sound issues, though. The Hackintosh software doesn't seem to read the internal PC sound card. I've perused some forums but have yet to find a resolution - I managed to lock up my computer and at this point, I'll need to redo the whole hacking process and try again.
On another note, my father is a pilot and I've taken a few flights with him and have taken command of the plane. I'd like to earn my pilots license someday. I also studied aerospace engineering in college for 3 years before switching my major (there were no jobs). So, I know a bit about flight theory.
Additionally, I worked as a game tester for [Company]'s Mobile Game division - that is, I made sure games like PAC-MAN, Ms. PAC-MAN, and Galaga worked properly on cell phones. So I'm very familiar with different handsets and cell service providers - as well as the potential to port software and the potential issues involved with variations between handsets/service providers.
Given my breadth of experience, I think I'd be a great addition and asset to your team. I'd like to help you work on your project and learn about iPhone development to beef up my resume - as well as produce and release my own software onto iTunes. I'm currently unemployed and am looking for something valuable and fun to improve my marketability.
I hope that answers your questions and I hope to hear more from you.
Hello,
I'm interested and would like to know more.
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your and your father's experience.
I am not clear on how this experience relates to my immediate requirement of intferafing a microcontroller to external hardware devices. An intermediate requirement is familiarizing yourself with some 800 pages of technical documentation for these devices.
You may wish to bring your feelings around $IDENTITY to a Tribe meeting. One of the things we do in Tribe is help each other clarify our intentions.
Ari wrote:Would you like to add the word "iPhone" to your resume?
Ari,
Do you still need people? What do you need from me in order to get to the program?
Thank you.
I am not clear on your meaning in "get to the program."
I saw your iPhone app. It is so cool. Would it be available for Android too? (I have an android phone). Too bad it can't work with my boats. But I an planning to get a little helicopter one day, so I'll try your app.
By the way, I am interested in your home-made transmitter. I am thinking of making my own (not as sophisticated, of course) for my sailboats. I'd love to "pick your brain" on this subject, when I get a chance.
Here is a link to a build-log of my boat project. It's in Russian, and a little wordy: http://chez-xandra.be/publ/20
Well, all the best to you, your family and your projects! Let us know when you are near [City]. We will, definitely, let you know when we are in the Bay area
Thank you for sharing your build process.
I wonder what makes my work inapplicable to your boats, and what features you want from a DIY transmitter that you can't find in commercial ones.
I may port iPhly to Android if I sense enough demand. In general, I prefer to concentrate my effort on developing features instead of dispersing it among disparate source trees.

Ari - great timing for this app. I am just coming up to speed on RC systems as I start work on a few robot projects.
[I] will use it for heavy wheelchair robot.
I see from the blog that you have a schematic you send out. Could you send that to me so I can work on the hardware end of this great project?
Great work!
Thank you for reading golB.
The schematic appears on this page.
Thanks Ari. I will let you know what we do with iPhly and what else we want it to do!
You are welcome.
Ari wrote:I wonder if you can describe how you wish the experience of working with me to turn out for you.
Hi Ari,
If you are thinking about paid, let's get that out of the way. I am NOT expecting to get paid for this.
On the other hand, I am NOT considering this as a job either. I am hoping it could be a fun little project that I can learn a few things and have some fun along the way.
Your intentions and mine align. I invite you to meet at Hacker Dojo in Mountain View. I wonder what time is convenient for you this week.
And now how big and tall are you?
And, all those problems that you have today?
What are the things that are important to you so that you squabble about or pick fights?

Hi Ari,
I met [Name] at a networking event today. I shared with [him] the question you had on your iPhone hardware accessory development and how impressed I was watching your youtube video.
[Name] has worked a lot on mobility related area. I thought it may be good to connect you two, just for common interest.
Thank you for the introductions.
Ari, Hi
I received your email through my brother who is in the [job-seekers'] group. I am an old veteran of Silicon Valley, and always an entrepreneur. I am not a microprocessor person or a software expert, however I know people who can do things. If you explain your project requirements a little bit more, then I will ask my friends to see who can do it. Of course, none of my friends are going to do the project for free. If you cannot pay them now, then you have to give them a percentage of the revenue in the future.
Please let me know if you are interested.
Thanks,
The difference is that with flying models the movements of a phone will be almost exactly (or at least proportionally) duplicated by the craft; i.e. when you tilt the phone from left to right, you engage the ailerons. With the boat I have to adjust the positions of the sails (preferably independently) in order to get the boat to move where I want. I do not use proportional control for the sails. I'm sure it could be done through the iPhone or Droid, but it would be a different interface with graphic, not censor-based control of the sails.
And the main thing I want in DIY transmitter is to separate the channels that are now combined in a single control stick. Because the movement of sail controls (and throttle control, if I have it) are not related to the position of the boat, the stick movements are not intuitive, as in an airplane. So, for me, a 4 channel transmitter should have four sticks.
I have not looked into programmable radios yet. Would be nice to have a setting for "right tack" and "left tack" that would be controlled by a single stick movement, or a toggle switch, and that would reset several (2 or 3) servos into proper positions. It is hard to explain in a short e-mail, without going into sailing theory. Much easier to draw on a piece of paper and explain in a couple of words. It is possible that programming something like this is possible already. I am thinking about building a big square-rigged ship (with sails set perpendicularly to the hull). They are VERY difficult to control. At least 5-6 channels might be needed.
We are contemplating a trip to Bay area on 4th of July weekend. It is by no means set yet, but we'll let you know if it happens. See you soon.
Thank you for sharing your process.
"Sensor:," Latin sentire to perceive + English -or: a device that responds to a physical stimulus.
"Censor:" Latin magistrate, from censere to give as one's opinion, assess: a person who supervises conduct and morals.
As Yakov Smirnoff might say: in America, you control sensors. In Soviet Russia, censors control you.
The competent censor doesn't control the distribution of objectionable material so much as trains his audience to avoid producing it. A big part of the Tribe work is discovering the censor within, acknowledging his objections and making peace with them.
While joysticks mechanically combine two movement axes in one device, they have electrically independent sensors (potentiometers). You can decouple the mechanics without modifying any of the electronic components or the programming.
You may wish to bring your feelings about $WHAT_YOU_THINK_YOU_CANNOT_HAVE to a Tribe meeting as an entry point.

Thank you.
Thank you for clarifying your intentions.
I wonder if you can describe the kind of mechanical and electric components you wish to work on.
Ari,
As you mention in your email, adding iPhone on my resume could be a big added value. On the technical side, I am a hardware engineer who as worked mainly in the EDA/Semiconductor industry and looking to move closer to the software industry where it seems to me there are more opportunities.
The video I saw has piqued my curiosity and interest, and I have some time on my hands. Perhaps we could meet for a coffee or a drink somewhere and talked about it?
Thank you for your encouragement and for clarifying your intentions.
I can use help with PCB design and discrete transistor/op-amp circuits.
I wonder if you can describe how you wish your process of "moving closer to the software industry" to turn out.
If you wish to meet, you can find me at the Hacker Dojo in Mountain View most weekdays from 11 to 5.

Thank you for sharing your experience and your invitation to meet.
I wonder if you can be more specific on what you are offering or what you expect in exchange for your services.
Hello Ari:
Thanks for your respond - nice to meet you here.
I watched the video and it's impressive.
What do need, exactly, in terms of chips interface?
I watched this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA2Av74pjTY from Parrot, it only needs WiFi interface, but it's a very smart drone.
I'm a pilot and I'm completely familiar with iPhone and the SDK. I'm familiar with a stealth startup that has a smart case for iPhone / iPad where some logic can be integrated. Interested?
Thoughts?
Thank you for your encouragement.
I am following Parrot development with interest. I hear that it will be out "real soon" now. One difference is that Parrot only works with Parrot. iPhly works with any hobby-grade R/C airplanes and cars. You don't need to buy new helicopters to use it.
I wonder what kind of partnership the stealth startup you mention might be looking for.
when is next tribe meeting
when does your group meet
Thank you for your inquiry.
The Tribe meets in the Now.
Ari writes:I can get a beta build with channel reordering out to you in a couple of days.
I was able to get [the new beta build] installed. So far it works great with my dx7. I have a walkera tx that I'm going to test it with. I think if there was a short help screen for people to read in the beginning it would make it easier for them to learn how to use the app. I'm starting to build the dm8 so I won't have to use a trainer cord.
Thank you sharing your feedback.

Following your feedback I am working on a set of "about" screens, "what it does," "DIY hardware," "TX compatibility," etc.
I noticed you also fixed the bug that made it crash if you took the trainer wire out before closing the app.
I wasn't aware of that bug. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
I wonder how to automate a test case for this.
Hi Ari:
you're right about Parrot.
what kind of chip you need to connect the iphone to the R/C box? or can it be wireless connection? the answer to this question is crucial.
Every startup now looks for either VC's, paying projects or very promising partnerships. Your idea may appeal to them, at least as a compelling demo to investors. But they don't have any funding yet. They have a smart case technology where some logic can be embedded inside a very thin case around the iPhone.
Thoughts?
Thank you for your validation.
The impression I'm getting from your emails is that your friends' startup may be more fundable if they show a sexy use case, and that iPhly is a sexy use case.
The accelerometer does have some noise that makes the servos vibrate, is there a way a filter could be added to counteract it such as a noise canceling circuit added to the dm8? That way the pulses from the ipod would be smoother and the servos wouldn't twitch so much.
The only other thing I see as an improvement would be to add a "helicopter" option under new models along with the airplane and car options. Other than that it seems to work very well.
Thank you for your feedback. You can control accelerometer response for each model under its settings. The default is to do no filtering but you can set the smoothing filter to any value you like. My experience is that while the twitching can be disconcerting on the ground, I don't notice, or hear, it in flight.
My initial intuition is to use a lot of accelerometer smoothing. As I gain experience with iPhly, I notice that use less and less smoothing, until eventually I use no smoothing at all in my flying. I leave the choice (and the slider) with the user however.

Thank you for your suggestion for a helicopter template. I wonder how different you'd like to make it from the airplane template.
Maybe you could distinguish the difference between airplane mode and heli mode with an airplane/helicopter symbol in the corner of the flight screen like the dx6i and dx7 transmtters do. I don't think it would need any changes in the configuration menu. Just some symbol to let you know what mode you are in.
Another feature that could be useful is an option to change the controls. For example you could configure the controls so that instead of tilting of the ipod controlling roll, rotating the iPod would control roll and tilting controls rudder.
Thank you for your suggestions.
I am looking for a graphic artist to create icons like you describe.

Ari,
Thank you for your email and question.
I'm bringing to be table expertise in building a businesses from the ground up. I am seeking an sleeves up, hands-on executive + marketing position with an equity position within your start up.
Hopefully your new company is a "Betterment" business making people’s lives "Better." This is of huge significant to me. At Philips our tagline was "Let's Make Things Better." It wasn't about technology for the sake of technology; it was about using technology to make people’s lives better. Betterment must convey a higher social purpose than just selling.
Spearheaded global product launches involving [service], [service], [service], Wi-Fi, GPS, CD-R/RW/DVD, Plasma TV, LCD Display, MP3, Digital Cameras, PDA’s (Handheld devices), Cell Phone, Web Camera, Intelligent Remote Control - [Brand], Speech Processing, Video Conferencing Systems, [Brand] and [Brand] (This is the tip of the iceberg). As you know Silicon Valley has invented incredible ideas and products and thousands of these companies and products never saw the light of day due to poor business sense and lack of marketing skills. I will deliver expertise to multiple areas.
Venture Capital:
• [Company] - Involved in raising capital via VCs ($24-million dollars)
• [Name] Solutions plc NASDAQ: [TICKER] (Consultant)
- Assisted in raising $12 million agreement with [Name] Capital LLC
• [Company] - Involved in raising $20-million dollars in capital
Perhaps you may find it helpful if we discussed how I can make a lasting contribution to your iPhone application startup over a cup of coffee?
Since we have never met and I know nothing about your product/company did I answer your question to your satisfaction?
Please note this Saturday through Thursday I will be in Europe on business.
Thank you for your consideration.

Thank you for sharing your process.
Your note suggests that you seek to take an equity position in a company about which you know nothing.
You may wish to bring your feelings about $HOMEWORK as an entry point to a Tribe meeting.
Hi Ari Krupnik.
I noticed your work on Oddity.com and thought these mosaics were great. So good, in fact, that I would like to post my own short piece on the web about thgis art form. I would like your permission to use some or all of the images I can find of your work for this piece, and a few words from yourself about them would also be really good. I hope you find time to get back to me soon, because your work needs to be seen by lots of people, and of course I would both credit and link back to you in my piece if you do agree. Thanks.
Thank you for your encouragement and asking for permission to use my work.
I am not clear on where you saw my work (oddity.com says "The requested URL / was not found on this server.") or where you want to publish your piece.
Hello again
The URL where I saw these pictures is http://www.odditycentral.com/pics/the-incredible-dice-mosaics-of-ari-krupnik.html but I also saw some great images on your own website - http://www.lib.aero/~ari/ that I would like to include in my piece. These are
http://www.lib.aero/~ari/mosaics/seykota.jpg
http://www.lib.aero/~ari/mosaics/po-2.jpg
http://www.lib.aero/~ari/mosaics/squirrel.png
http://www.lib.aero/~ari/mosaics/self.jpg
http://www.lib.aero/~ari/mosaics/thurman.jpgI hope this clears up any confusion you may have had, and look forward to getting your assent for my modest effort. Thanks.
Thank you for clarifying your intentions.
You may post my mosaics on your website, as long as you credit me and link to the pages the images come from. You may wish to post thumbnails--and link to full-size images on my site. The mosaics are easier to observe as small thumbnails than as full-size images. When you look at full-size images, as on odditycentral, you see individual pixels rather than a complete image.
Hi Ari,
Love your video, it's totally amazing.
I'm controlling a robot with an Android phone. The robot has an Arduino w/ BT.
It would be great to hear more about your chopper. What time do you usually get to the Dojo on Wednesday (I get there around 7:00).
BTW, Chris A. sometime wrenches on his drones at Stupid Fun Club, a company I cofounded with game guy [Name].
Thank you for your encouragement.
From your note, it is not clear if you still associate with SFC, or if that experience is complete.
I am at the Dojo most weekdays from 11 to 5. I have a 13-month-old daughter and I like to spend my evenings at home.
Hey Ari, I was thinking about the iphone4 gyro.... that opens up some doors for you huh? At first I was thinking it's kind of useless for rc, but then I visualized how that will work and feel. How cool and eye catching that would be, for a coaxial heli. If the coaxial has a good head holding gyro, then flying a thing around that mimics exactly how your iphone is oriented, is pretty cool! I bet it will take some time to get used to for someone who flies, but it's more intuitive than what traditional transmitter does for coaxial helis.... just tilt and orient, and the heli does the exact same thing.
Anyway, I bet you've thought about it all already, but it's pretty neat new sensor for a transmitting device :)
Thank you for your suggestion.
Gyros are new in iPhone 4. As more of them ship, and if I sense customer demand, I can add the gyroscope as an input to iPhly.
Hello ari,
I am [nationality], i want to become beta tester of your project on cameramount.
Can you tell me how to become betatester ?
Where can i buy all the thing to build my remote ?
Excuses me for my bas english.
I hope you will answer to me.
Thank you so much.
Thank you for your interest in iPhly.
The beta testing program is complete and iPhly is available in the App Store.
iPhly needs only basic components like a stereo plug and a 270 Ohm resistor. In the United States, Radio Shack stores carry these components. I expect similar retailers exist in your country.
Here is a video of the gyro in action in my 2wd stampede. I took the day off for being sick.... But managed to spend a few minutes setting up the gyro again and filming. This is a fairly expensive heli gyro, they are probably cheaper now, but costs about 100-150 or so a couple of years ago. A rate only gyro is much cheaper, and probably enough for your buggy.... I actually like 2wd with rate because it feels a bit more wild, which is the whole point to having a 2wd machine :)
Hello,
My name is [Name], i am the boss of [NAME] Technology. Manufacture of RC blimp for Cinema.
I want to put your application on our cameramount (3 axis camera mount) I am [nationality] and i am not sur to understand everything in english.
Can you tell me exactly what i need to buy and to put on our cameramount for it to be stabilized ?
this is the cameramount we usully buy : www.photoshipone.com
Thank you for your note.
iPhly is a transmitter application. It doesn't stabilize the receiver.
If you tell me more about your current technology you use to control your blimp and the camera, I might better understand where iPhly can fit in.
Hi Ari,
When we meet I can tell you what I'm up to, but I'm keeping things low-key for now.
That said, I like doing high profile stuff, like controlling things with smart phones!
Thank you for sharing your process.
With iPhly, you can choose any flight profile you are comfortable with.
Hello Ari,
I want to put iPhly directly on a cameramount to stabilized it.
Like that i don't need RAdio like futaba. Beause i will send for CNES a ballon in stratosphere and we need to stabilizd the video on the balloon. We can't used radio control because balloon may fly a quater around the world. (this is not a joke).
We have the application to find exactly the balloon when he will landed. but we need to stabilized the cmount. So i hope we will able todo it with your application.
Look at this video, this is what i need but without radio control.
We need to do it for a non profit association wich help kids to goes on the good way in school http://www.planete-sciences.org/espace/-Ballon-experimental
Can you tell me exactly what i need to buy ?
Absolutly Spektrum or FUTABA module is ok ?
Resistance is 330 Ohm ?
Thank you for your note--and for inspiring your students.
I don't tell people what they should do, and never tell people what they need to buy. I can tell you what I'm using. I'm using a Spektrum DM8 module and a 270 Ohm resistor (330 works for some people, 270 works for everyone I know).
I am still not clear on what you wish to achieve with iPhly. I understand that you want to control a camera mount, but don't want to use a standard transmitter. You also mention a requirement for a 10,000km range. iPhly uses a standard radio module and has the same range as any transmitter that uses that module. For 2.4GHz modules, the range is typically a couple of km.

[Name] has invited you to join the Be Thoughtful group with this message:
Here is the group I promised you an invitation to. Do with it whatever you like.
Here is the party I promised you an invitation to: [URL]
Same story goes, for that.
Here is the group's description:
A discussion group for those who are thoughtful and polite. A humble homage to the prolific correspondents of the past and an attempt to challenge ourselves.
Thank you for your invitations.
I notice that you declare low expectations for both of them.
One way to avoid $DISAPPOINTMENT is to avoid wanting anything in particular.
Thank you very much for coming over, and for talking with me today. I had a lot of fun -- playing with ideas is something I like very much, and is something that I am certainly intererested in doing more of, with you.
Have a good day! Tomorrow I will be back with my nose to the grindstone finishing my programming project, and various other commitments will keep me pretty busy for the next ~2 weeks. If I don't respond to things you show/send in that period, it is only because I am working to maintain focus right now. I give you a lifelong invitation: I will always be interested to hear from you, and to help you in anyway I'm momentarily able. So, please don't hesitate to tell me things, or to ask for them. I will probably sometimes not respond. If I don't respond, you are invited to ask me again, and so on =)
You are the first person I have given quite that invitation to, but it's a promising one, and I might use it in the future to let people know when I like them a lot.
Thank you for your offer of help--and your invitation to tell you things.
I notice that your recursive algorithm for interaction lacks a definite base case. If you don't respond, the stack overflows eventually.
You may wish to bring your feelings about the $MOMENTARY and the $LIFELONG to a tribe meeting.
Love this idea. Got one for my kid and one for a gift. Big thanks!
Thank you for your purchase and for telling me what recycling CDs is worth to you.
I find the tone of your letter appalling.Thank you very much, Ari. I've checked and have found the payment. sorry for the mistake.
By the way, in order to improve our service level, and we do feel sorry to make you feel appalled by the tone of the dunning letter, we would like to ask your opinion of what should be modified on the dunning letter.
Thank you very much.
Best regards
Thank you for your note.
I don't, as a rule, tell people what they "should" do.
You may wish to show your letter to a native speaker of English and observe the emotions that come up around the word "dunning."
Hy Ari,
Thank u for your answer. -:) Just donwload your app.
Question about it : will you think in the futur to put a system to keep north pole and to decide to goes from one point to another point (Back to home) /////
Concerning my project, i forget to tell you you that the phone will be glue on the balloon !!!
We will loose it if we can't find balloon (Finger crossed, because we never loose ballon at this time) We send 11 balloon in stratosphere ....
Thank you for downloading my application, and for clarifying your goals.
I wish you success in your project. If you send a photograph of your rig, I can post it on my website.
I have no immediate plans to implement an autopilot in iPhly. Your application is exciting for me, and I can implement the features you describe if I sense significant customer demand for them. Since the phone has a GPS, it can even send you the coordinates where it lands.

Thank you for the invitation.
I have an ongoing interest in trend-following trading systems, but my business focus is on iPhly.
Perhaps you can describe in more detail what benefit you or I can derive from my membership in your group.
hey congrats on the make post: http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2010/06/spirograph_from_old_cd-rom.html
Thank you for your encouragement.
I love the idea [of recycling CDs]!
Not to be picky but just hoping to find something that resonates with me; do you have a selection of discs you could name me off to choose from? I'm also a clock collector, please let me know when you start selling those.
Thank you for your encouragement and you order.
If you have a particular CD that you wish to make into a RecycloGraph, you can mail it to me and I cut it for you.
The clock is a one-off item. I welcome you to make me an offer.
I find your sincerity quite unique in a world of men that never speak what they truly mean.
Thank you for being there to receive it.
G'day. Great idea - I'm buying one each for my kids. Cheers!
Thank you for your purchase and for telling me what recycling CDs is worth to you.
Maybe this book might be interesting
Thank you for the link.
I notice that the preface, available though your link, says: "much of the stuff you'll really want to know about is covered by a non-disclosure agreement with Apple and I can't and won't talk about them."
This observation seems to imply a low upper bound on the value of this book, especially for someone who already has access to the extra-secret documentation from Apple.
Hi!
I buyed iphly on the app store, because your idea os quite brilliant!
I have a Futaba t7cp (Ff7) i want connect my iphone trough the buddy cord i know masse and signal pins...
I got a 3,5mm pin with masse and signal...so what i have to do? I have activate the trainer mode so far...
Thanks!
Von meinem iPhone gesendet
Thank you for your purchase--and for your encouragement.
To use iPhly with a Futaba radio you need to invert the signal, as you would in a flight simulator cable or if you want to connect Futaba with JR.
There are many pages on the Web that discribe this circuit, including www.flyheli.de/flugsim/simrx.htm and users.belgacom.net/TX2TX/tx2tx/english/tx2txgb2.htm.
I love your Recyclograph. I was wondering if you'd consider making one out of metal (preferably a non-oxidizing kind). I offer $[amount] plus S&H to [State].
While technically not recycling and not exactly in line with your idea of recycling, it would never be through away, and would prevent the purchase of many plastic sets through various generations :)
Thank you for your offer.
I am not willing to accept it.
I notice that I find it very hard to turn down business--thank you for helping me experience the feeling of $SAYING_NO.
Hi Ari –
Have you heard of this? It is using the iPhone/iPad to control a quadricopter.
http://ardrone.parrot.com/parrot-ar-drone/enYours is better as it is more general purpose and actually using a radio xmiter as opposed to wifi. But thought it was interesting.
Thank you for comparing me favorably.
I am watching Parrot development with interest.
This is a mixture of thoughts tumbling together. What question should I tackle next?
Loss: June 28 2010
Drama wraps around her shoulders like a thrift-store faux fur. Out of date and labeling her irrelevant and unwanted.
Fear, the partner to passion. Romance tipped on it's side leads to despair.
Come let us reason you and I. Let's skip the banquet and whisper in the salty spaces of our bodies, encircling our fingers to create a bow. And yet that's not what God has given me, even as a diversion. Instead I get poetry, the tumbling of words in place of hands.
Why Am I Afraid to Grieve?
Fear of grief of loss. I'm afraid of the anger. I'm afraid of being angry at God, my family my self. I'm afraid the frustration will consume me. Looking for someone to blame. They taunt me -those men - those universalists - you lost your dream - you failed. We have our sprinkles, our cupcakes, our irish eyes, mexican skirts and giggling girls. They don't see me perhaps. I'm afraid of un-authenticity. Isn't that the essence of fear of commitment? Fear of losing yourself to someone else (something else). It has to be chosen. I choose.
Do I get easily consumed by them? yes. When I start to give it all gets muddled and I lose the vision the peace. I need that touchstone. That's is what's kept me stuck. That belief for a touchstone. Someones to see me, support me. Would this give me the strength to bless the renegades?
Thank you for following through with your commitment to write about loss.
Poetry can give structure to experience.
Poetry can obfuscate experience with structure.
You may wish to describe your experience of $LOSS in simpler words. One simple rule you can follow to help you stay closer to the experience is describe it in the present tense.
we got to the heart of an issue that's prevented my setting from goals, establishing a vision for my life. I need to face my fears and grieve the life I thought I would have (wanted) to move on. This will be a process. But I think it's a necessary to step to my future. I find the group most helpful when I focus on a single point.!
Thank you for your willingness to do the work.
I notice that you mention past and future a lot. You may wish to bring your work into the Now--or bring your feelings about the $NOW to a Tribe meeting.
golB is on vacation as of today.
As I evaluate my priorities and make choices about what I want to concentrate on, I make a decision to suspend golB. golB is a very rewarding experience but also very consuming. golB averages over 3 messages a day in the last 3 months. As I ramp up my work on iPhly, I choose to let go of my commitment to golB.
I continue to read my email and respond to it. I am particularly looking for user feedback on iPhly. I reaffirm my commitment to support existing and new users.
I wonder what it might feel like to not keep golB up to date.
